BMC Racing Team's Daniel Oss spent nearly all day in a breakaway Monday before teammate Jempy Drucker earned his second top 10 finish at the Amgen Tour of California.

Oss was joined by Robin Carpenter (Hincapie Racing), Markel Irizar (Trek Factory Racing) and Luis Romero (Jamis-Hagens Berman) about 30 kilometers into the 193.7-km race. The quartet led by as much as five minutes and was not brought back until fewer than five kilometers remained.

Like Sunday's opening stage, Etixx-Quick Step did the chasing and then set up the field sprint. Mark Cavendish (Etixx-Quick Step) took his second straight victory – again ahead of Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) – while Drucker finished sixth.
