Rider profile

Richie Porte lines up for his second season with BMC Racing Team in 2017, having proven himself as a Grand Tour leader in 2016 when he showed strength and determination by finishing fifth at the Tour de France in his first attempt as a leader.

The Australian has a solid palmares which includes overall victory at Paris-Nice, Volta Ciclista a Catalunya and Giro del Trentino, and multiple stage wins at Paris-Nice and the Santos Tour Down Under, 3 of which have been on the Willunga Hill finish. If he hasn’t been on the top step, Porte has recorded a string of podium finishes at week-long UCI WorldTour races in the past four years, where he has climbed with the best in the peloton. Porte’s strength on the climbs is backed by his speed against the clock, with the Australian clocking consistent podium finishes in time trials.

The former Australian National Time Trial champion has 21 professional wins to his name, a number he is looking to build on in 2017. At 31 years old and entering his eighth year as a pro, Porte is one of the best stage and Grand Tour riders in the peloton.
