22. December 2014 — BMCVoice

Christmas is known as the season for giving. When the UCI Bikes for the World approached us for a donation this year we didn’t bat an eyelid and we responded to their request by donating 15, used BMC race bikes.

The UCI Bikes for the World is a charity organisation under the belt of the UCI, which supports cyclists in less developed countries around the globe. This year, BMC Switzerland is proud to support this great cause, and in the true spirit of gift-giving, donate 15 top-class race bikes to aspiring cyclist from less fortunate countries around the world.

Founded in 2010, the Bikes for the World foundation under the guidance of the UCI has  Some of these athletes have to train on shared or borrowed bikesalready sent more than 300 bikes from the World Cycling Centre in Aigle, to less developed countries. These bikes are provided to young and talented athletes, who put a lot of energy into their training, but whose equipment often doesn’t make it possible for them to compete on an international level. Thanks to Bikes for the World, these athletes are now able to line-up at continental and international competitions with equipment that will not see them disadvantaged from the outset.

The bikes that have been donated by BMC Switzerland come from the pro-continental team Atlas Personal Jakroo

This project is one of the great sides to our work "This project is one of the great sides to our work,” says WCC Master Mechanic Alex Roussel. “We all like doing this. It really means something to be able to give these riders an opportunity to compete in similar conditions.”

This year BMC Switzerland donated 15 Bikes to UCI Bikes for the World to put these athletes on a similar playing field as their international competitors. 10 of the donated bikes are timemachine TM02’s and 5 teammachine SLR01’s complete with carbon rim wheel-sets. Additionally BMC Switzerland could provide a few boxes with spare equipment.

That’s a lot of bikes for one van!
