19. July 2016 — BMC Tempo

Yellow everywhere, red polka dots, pommes frites, people speaking French, Swiss German, Italian - Bern was transformed yesterday when the Tour de France came to town. Cycling fans came from far and wide and demonstrated their enthusiasm with a deafening cheer that would rival any football fans when the peloton charged past the Stadion Suisse to the finish line.

And then, silence. No one knew who had won the stage. Everyone turned to their phones to check news feeds and await the result of the finishline photo. That's cycling! Riders battle in the heat for over 200km and in the end, it's all over in one second...a thrilling end to Stage 16 of the Tour de France.

We were at the finish line to catch up with the Swiss rider Michi Schär as he recovered from a hot, hot stage. With temperatures over 30 degrees, and little shelter to hide from the sun, it took some time for the riders to cool down at the bus. Some went straight into the bus or team cars, preferring to go straight to the hotel without spending time on the rollers, Richie Porte,Tejay van Garderen and Greg Van Avermaet hung around for a while at the team bus for interviews and precious time with their families.

Michi Schär did the same, taking time to greet his fanclub and parents at the team bus and give some interviews to the Swiss media.

Rest Day - Thun, Switzerland

We sent a photographer out to grab some photos of the BMC Racing Team on their rest day in Thun yesterday. It was smoking hot again, and they rode along the lake of Thun with its idyllic backdrop of the triangular-shaped Mt. Niesen, a famous landmark on the south side of the lake.

The riders were notably impressed with the scenery! Who wouldn't be?

Check out Marcus Burghardt's Rest Day ride on Strava for more photos and details of the ride.
